One of the most challenging tunneling projects in the world
Approximately 90% of the drinking water delivered to customers in southern Nevada comes from the Colorado River, which is captured at Lake Mead. Construction of this new intake ensures that full system capacity can be maintained at low lake levels. The $520M project consisted of a 600-foot deep intake, new 900 MGD pumping station, and 3 miles of up to 20-foot inside diameter water supply tunnel. Fossil Creek Trail is a set of two separate paved pathways, totaling 5.3 miles, running through neighborhoods and local parks that the City of Fort Collins is working on connecting. This deep tunnel pump station is designed to dewater 160 MG of stored CSO flow in a 24 hour period. The pump station is 240 feet below ground, housed in an underground cavern that is 35 feet lower than the nearby tunnel storage system. The cavern is approximately 140 feet long, 56 feet wide, and 65 feet high. Read MoreAnil Dean, Tunnels and Trenchless Practice Leader
