Inspecting and managing a kingdom of bridges
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had approximately 6,000 bridge structures in 13 regions, and each of those structures needed to be reviewed. When the Ministry of Transport set out to gather bridge asset information and organize the results into a useful plan of action, they needed help.
Our Bridge Management System (BMS) is piece of engineering asset management software designed to manage bridge structures and aid in maintenance prioritization decisions. It’s a powerful tool that analyzes bridge inventory and inspection data, condition ratings, deterioration rates, load ratings, and structural and functional appraisals. This helps clients look at individual bridge elements, entire bridges, or bridge networks and proactively manage their inventory. That means optimal allocation of financial resources and increased safety for bridge users.
As a sub-consultant, we’re handling the bridge inspection training as well as the quality assurance for the bridge inspections. Plus, the Ministry is adopting our BMS to manage their assets. With this system in their hands, they’re better prepared to perform the right activities, on the right bridge, at the right time—at the right cost.
