Converting a former railroad corridor into a shared-use trail along the Quequechan River in Massachusetts
Taking advantage of one of the city’s best natural features, the Quequechan River, the City of Fall River is converting a former railroad corridor along the river into a shared-use trail for bikes and pedestrians.
As part of the project, we’re handling the design of seven boardwalks, six new structures, and the rehabilitation of one existing bridge. The trail will also be enhanced with site furnishings, informational and directional signage, and landscaping—and with the trail passing through environmental resource areas, we’ll also be helping to gain environmental approvals from a variety of local and state agencies.
When completed, the trail will not only bring two neighborhoods closer together, but also serve as a seamless connection between two parks, one of which we recently helped renovate. Our design of 1.7 miles of trail, along with a spur trail, will give the people of Fall River a scenic and accessible recreational resource.
