What is the right choice for school design?

The AIA reports that a total of 25 states have used standardized stock plans for schools in the past. All 25 states abandoned the idea when school districts failed to realize the cost savings and education effectiveness that was promised. As a member of AIA’s Committee of Architecture for Education, senior design architect Diego Barrera explains the shortfalls of stock plans and why engaging community members in a meaningful way positively impacts the design process.
