Stakeholder engagement and technical support to support the promotion of an open, free, global, stable, and secure internet
As African governments work to bridge the global digital divide, the Promotion and Development of the Open Internet project aims to promote the benefits and importance of an open internet approach. By supporting countries across Africa with global connectivity and wide-spread access, enabling policies and regulatory environments, digital, skills and competencies, the European Union believes a more socio-economic equitable outcome can be met for the communities being served.
To support this project, our team is providing technical and logistical support for stakeholder engagement to encourage the development of the Open Internet in Africa. How? Our experts are mapping out key stakeholders, preparing targeted reports and briefs, organizing stakeholder meetings and workshops, and supporting the development of digital projects in selected African countries.
As part of the project, a comprehensive report was produced on the digital ecosystem in Africa, its growth, and the role that Open Internet plays as a driver of innovation, socio-political, economic, and cultural development. The report, “The Open Internet as cornerstone of digitalisation” was released in October 2022.
