The increasing use of consumer owned energy, otherwise known as distributed energy resources (DER) have become a major topic of discussion recently among power professionals. Mehrdad Rostami (Power Discipline leader) and Mehrdad Boloorchi describe the impacts of DER integration and impacts to the grid. A major topic of discussion included important measures that must be taken for DER to be reasonably integrated to maintain a flexible and dynamic grid.
