Bus Rapid Transit
Move into the fast lane
Bus rapid transit (BRT) systems create a key link to local destinations—one that is flexible, reliable, and cost effective. In addition to being a sustainable transportation option, BRT enhances a community’s mobility and reduces car traffic.
We design and consult on high-capacity BRTs for mixed traffic and exclusive lane scenarios, allowing for faster travel and more flexible routes when compared with conventional bus systems. Often a more economical solution than rail options, we design BRTs with lower capital cost per passenger. Looking to the future, we include sustainability measures in our projects, such as bioswales and transit-adjacent bikeways, to maintain a BRT line’s viability.
Our team also designs BRT stations to promote transit awareness and ridership. Working with our clients, we evolve their BRT stations from enhanced bus stops to multi-modal hubs, integrating first-last mile opportunities, community orientation and wayfinding, and safety measures to enhance the rider experience.
In all our BRT projects, we develop systems that provide true value to our clients and public transit riders.
Boston Area Bus Rapid Transit Pilots
We served as the lead technical advisor on the Boston Area Bus Rapid Transit pilot project. With elements including queue jump lanes, dedicated bus lanes, and accessible platforming, we’re helping improve the commuter experience for Boston communities. Read MoreOur People
