Developing the setting for the Burj Khalifa Tower
Burj Dubai is a master planned community that has become a major urban node within Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Surrounding the world’s tallest building—the Burj Khalifa Tower—the project was developed on 168 hectares of land adjacent to the existing high-rise residential and office districts.
Built on the site of a former military facility, this iconic development sets the stage for the Burj Khalifa. It includes a large retail shopping center, a business center, a significant collection of high-rise residential towers, and an old town residential and retail center. We designed this center to be an acknowledgement of the more traditional building forms of the culture, featuring a major urban lake and park. The major organizing element of our masterplan is Burj Dubai Boulevard—a 3.5-kilometer loop road that provides access to all elements of the project.
Linking all essential aspects of the project is a 9.3-hectare lake that provides a visual, recreational, and transportation element to this iconic development. The best part? The Dubai fountain (the world’s largest dancing fountain system) is set on the lake, creating an even bigger draw to this already iconic community.
